Gavel

The gavel is a working tool of the entered apprentice. As the operative mason uses the gavel to improve the stones, the speculative mason sees it as a symbol of the continual improvement we undergo internally as we progress through life. A proper masonic gavel is square on one head and angled to a point on the other.
